One of the founding members of Fortress Investment Group was Wes Edens. He earned degrees in Finance and Business Administration after graduating from Oregon State University. In his early career, he held positions at the companies BlackRock and Lehman Brothers. He would take his experience from these companies and helped to form Fortress Investment Group in 1998. Fortress would grow from managing $400 million in assets to managing over $40 billion. One of Fortress Investments is the Brightline, which is a high-speed train and the only privately-owned rail system currently in the United States. Recently providing service to the Miami area, Wes Edens is talking about expanding the rail system to other areas in the US. The Brightline can reach speeds of 135 miles per hour and delivers quicker commute times for passengers than driving in traffic-jammed highways. The Brightline connects the cities of Miami and Orlando and stops for passengers in both West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale. Brightline offers will offer a total of eight daily trips among its stations in West Palm Beach and Miami. The fares charged by the Brightline vary between ten and twenty-five dollars. Although Wes Edens has made a reputation for himself in the world of finance, he also shares a passion for sports and has been a professional sports owner since 2014 after purchasing the Milwaukee Bucks for $550 million. He also is the owner of FlyQuest, which is backed by Fortress Investment Group. Wes Eden’s and billionaire Nassef Sawiris recently invested in Aston Villa Football Club. The club had been in the top division and dropped down to second division, which hurt the club financially.
